I am an artist, ritualist, priestess, and writer. My mission is to create living portals of communication between the worlds through my art, my writings, and my rituals.
Nine Ravens Studio is the crossroads where I open my heart and connect with the divine within and beyond, so I can listen to the spirits and create artwork to give them physical expression. My works are vessels that provide a contained and sacred space where the human and greater-than-human can interact. They translate the unseen into the seen to aid in the spiritual healing, evolution, and transformation of our individual and communal souls.
My Art
I turned to the visual arts in 2005, starting with digital collage and mixed media shrines. In the last few years I have added in colored pencils, oil pastels, and acrylics. I have taken some art classes over the years, but I am not formally trained. I have explored Touch Drawing with Deborah Koff-Chapin, the Color of Woman method online with Havi Mandell, intuitive painting online with Sheri Ponzi, and attended an Visionary Art Intensive with Alex and Allyson Grey. But I am not certified in any one technique.
Currently I am an exhibiting artist member at The Hamilton Gallery in Baltimore. Exhibitions change monthly and I can often be found at the First Friday opening reception.
I have also exhibited at the Torpedo Factory’s Day of the Dead altar exhibition in 2011; Artomatic in 2008, 2009, and 2012; The Open Hearth Foundation in 2011 - 2013; and the Towson Arts Collective in 2013.
My Writings
I work as a museum exhibits writer for my day job. I translate the specialized knowledge of scientific researchers into fun and understandable language for interested museum visitors.
I also write prayers of devotion and healing, rituals to invoke the presence of the gods and our souls into sacred space, and poetry to call our attention to the sacredness of everyday life.
My History
My family is mostly British, Scottish, and German. The women on my mother's side have been healers and psychics. I was raised in the Spiritualist community of the 1970s and early 80s. Both my parents were mediums, ministers, and ceremonial magicians. I was lucky enough to live the first seven years of my life surrounded by the enchanted green-world of Camp Chesterfield in Indiana, where I first learned to listen and speak to the invisible world.
I discovered Paganism in Oklahoma and Texas as a teen, and again was lucky enough to study in covens in the Georgian (Lady Georgia in Norman, OK) and Isian (Lady Bridget in Houston, TX) traditions of Wicca.
In 1997, I moved to the DC metropolitan area, where I coordinated many community events, including the DC Pagans’ Night Out (1998–2000) and DC Pagan Pride Day (2001–2002, 2010, 2013–2015), as well as public seasonal rituals.
In 1998, I helped found an experimental ritual group named Magick Belly #9 where we learned through trial and error how to create and perform moving and meaningful rituals for ourselves and others. In 2002, I joined Becoming, the earth-based panentheist spiritual community that grew out of “the Bellies.” I served that community as the Presiding Celebrant from 2003 to 2011 and was ordained as clergy by the membership in 2005. Currently I am a second-degree initiate of the Order of the Elemental Mysteries and member of their Artist Guild, and the Dean of Students at Reflections Mystery School, founded by Katrina Messenger.
My Name
I was given the name Angela by my paternal grandmother in memory of her mother, Angelina. I was given the name Raincatcher during my first-degree initiation into the Order of the Elemental Mysteries.
